ORLANDO | Universal Orlando Resort apparently could not let Walt Disney World be the most expensive theme park in America.
Now, the two theme parks share the distinction, each charging $89 plus tax for a one-day, one-park pass at the gate.
In the last two weeks, both Universal and Disney have raised their ticket prices as Orlando's theme park wars rage on over which park will get your dollar.
Before May 30, the price for a single-day, single-park pass at either resort cost $85 at the gate.
Universal was the first to announce a price hike, charging $88 for a single-day, single-park pass -- $3 more than the same ticket to a single Disney park at the time.
Disney made its move Sunday, bumping their ticket price up to $89, both for visitors and Florida residents.
Now, Universal has announced its second price hike in as many weeks.
Thursday, the resort said it's adding an extra dollar to its single-day ticket, effectively matching Disney's price for the same.
Why the second increase? A dollar may not seem like it would make much of a difference, but the move could be worth millions for Universal, especially considering its two parks reportedly brought in nearly 14 million visitors in 2011, thanks in part to the success of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure.
Both Universal and Disney have increased ticket prices almost across the board, but you can always save a few bucks if you buy multi-day passes, or if you buy online:
Tickets to SeaWorld Orlando are a little lower, at $82 -- or a full $10 lower online.
But the best deal in Central Florida is at Legoland, in Winter Haven, where a single-day ticket will cost you $75, or $68 if you buy online.
